This mountain man knows his way around the woods. And how to use his hands.

Jenna never expected the brooding billionaire who bought the old cabin outside of Whiskey River to be so infuriatingly attractive — or so determined to keep to himself. But when a storm traps them together, the walls he's built start to crumble, and she discovers that beneath all that quiet intensity is a man who's never wanted anyone the way he wants her.

A steamy, small-town mountain man romance with a surprisingly sweet virgin hero who's anything but innocent once he sets his sights on what he wants.

This mountain man knows his way around the woods. And how to use his hands.

Jenna:

I’m a big city girl hiding out in the tiny town of Whiskey River. I’m a runaway bride, hiding from my ex and my family.

The shy, virgin mountain man who sells handmade wooden furniture in town doesn’t seem like he would try to control me the way my family did.

He’s strange and beautiful.

Phoenix:

There’s a reason I live in the woods all alone.

People confuse me. Women especially. Trees don’t give mixed signals. Rocks aren’t impossible to read. I work with my hands and keep my life uncomplicated.

Then she complicates things. With her, it’s not hard to let down my guard and view the world through her artist’s lens.

But I’ve been burned before. A beautiful city girl will never be happy here.

I know my way around the woods. Gorgeous women are a whole other story.

Chapter 1 Look Inside

Chapter 1
Jenna

I’m shopping for my place and can pick out anything I want.
No one can tell me no if I want to decorate it l.
No one is going to tell me what to do, what to buy, what to wear. Not anymore.
These are such freeing thoughts that I keep saying them to myself over and over.
I have a huge file on my computer with possible home decor ideas and so much freedom to choose that I can't narrow it down.
I couldn't have picked a better place to be on my own. Whiskey River, Montana, is a small town with majestic mountain views. Walking down Main Street as I look to furnish my cabin, I’m surrounded by the breathtaking Montana mountains.
This is the most beautiful small town that no one has ever heard of. It's the type of town people move to and never leave. And it will be the perfect place to put down roots for the family I want to build.
Most of the shops and restaurants are mom-and-pop owned. Up and down Main Street and downtown are benches so people can sit and take in the mountain views. It's easy to get lost in them and ignore everything else.
When I finally tear my eyes from the mountain, Whiskey River Local Retail is the shop before me. In the window is a sign that says they have hand-crafted items. I want this type of furniture and décor for my home—local items, one-of-a-kind, handmade things you won't see everywhere.
Walking into the store, I find it's larger than I realized. There’s a whole outdoor and camping section to my left, the handmade items to my right, and an entire furniture section toward the back of the store.
I mentally tick off the items I want. I’ll need a dining room table, a living room and bedroom set. For a two-bedroom cabin, the dining room is pretty big. I want a large table to fill it because I have dreams of friends gathering around that table someday soon.
But first, I have to make friends, which means opening up about my past, and I'm not quite ready for that.
Taking a deep breath, I remind myself to start with the table and slowly find the friends to fill it.
My life here is still new, and I'm not done looking over my shoulder. But I’ll get there. I know I will. Since I plan to make Whiskey River my home, I need to relax and take my time making friends.
As I get to the back of the store, I stop dead in my tracks. Four men are talking to another man behind the counter.
Four very large, rugged men. As if they sense me staring, they all turn to look at me, and that's when I see the blonde girl with them. Compared to them, she’s small. When she peeks her head around one of the men, she offers me a smile. The man standing beside her pulls her closer to his side, and they resume their conversation, so I return my attention to the furniture.
A wooden slab coffee table catches my eye. It’s as if someone sliced a large tree from top to bottom like a slice of bread and polished it to make this table. You can see all the different patterns of the wood. It would be perfect for my place if it were a dining room table.
"It's beautiful, isn't it?" The man behind the counter appears beside me.
"Yeah. I wish you had one like it as a dining room table."
"Phoenix over there made it. He makes all the wood furniture for the store. Let me ask him." The man walks over to the group of men.
I check out the rest of the wood furniture in the shop. There are rocking chairs and small tables, and every piece looks unique.
One of the men from the group slowly walks up to me. His eyes are on me the whole time, but not in a creepy way that makes me uncomfortable like—
No. I'm not going there. This man's whiskey-colored eyes are warm, almost comforting. He's large and slightly awkward, as if he's afraid to make the wrong move and knock something over.
"Jack said you were looking for a table?" His deep rumbly voice washes over me, giving me goosebumps. His voice is scratchy, his words unsure, as if he doesn't enjoy talking to strangers. Who can blame him?
I clear my throat, hoping he hasn't caught me staring. "I love this coffee table and wondered if you could make anything like this in a dining room table size."
He stares at me like he’s trying to learn everything about me with one look, but his gaze doesn’t make me uncomfortable. It has the opposite effect, putting me at ease. When he doesn't answer me right away, I begin to wonder if he heard my question.
Of course, this is the moment my phone rings. I tense because there are only three people who would call me. It’s too late now, but I make a mental note to head into the city to get my phone changed.
Glancing at the screen, I see the call is from my mom. I send it to voicemail and look up at the man in front of me.
He runs his hand through his deep brown hair with its enticing curl. "I’m working on one for a customer now." He pauses, and I think he's done when he speaks again. "You’re welcome to come to my workshop to check it out and see if it’s what you’re looking for."
Why does the thought of spending time with him excite me? It shouldn't because I don't know him. Shouldn't I be experiencing “stranger danger” rather than excitement?
"I'd like that," I hear myself saying.
My phone rings again. This time it’s my dad. I send him to voicemail, too, something I’ve never done in my life. I'm surprised they gave me two weeks before trying to find me.
"Sorry about that," I say, hoping he doesn't think I'm rude.
His eyes bore into mine. "No worries. I'm Phoenix."
"I'm Jenna. You may already know this, but I'm new to town." I feel the need to add the last part.
He nods and turns to go to the counter.
"Okay, then," I mutter under my breath.
I browse the wall of home décor items, and a moment later, Phoenix is back at my side, thrusting a piece of paper at me.
"That's my shop and how to get there," he says.
I take the piece of paper, which contains an address and directions. "When?"
"Tomorrow?"
"That works. Lunchtime?"
He nods, and his eyes lock with mine again, keeping me frozen in place. I can’t move or speak. All I can do is stare into those whiskey-colored eyes, knowing I’ll see them in my dreams tonight.
Hell, this man will fill my dreams for weeks to come. They don't make them this big, muscular, or sexy where I come from. If this is what men in Montana look like, I have no reason to leave.
When he finally turns and walks back to his friends, I instantly miss his eyes on me. It’s an unfamiliar feeling.
After picking up decorations for the house, I go to pay for them. The blonde woman smiles at me again while the four guys watch my every move. She seems friendly, even if the guy she’s attached to looks like he could snap a car in half without breaking a sweat.
"Did you find everything you needed?" the man behind the counter asks.
"Mostly. I'm looking to furnish my new place."
"Well, whatever you can't find here, you can find in Helena, about an hour from here. It makes a good day trip into the city. Of course, I’m always happy to place an order for you," he tells me, ringing up my items.
“I'm sure I’ll be taking you up on that," I reply as I pay him.
"What do you do for work?"
"I'm a photographer."
"What brings to our small town? I can't imagine there will be much work for you here."
"My most popular photos are from this area. When I was ready to start over, this is where I wanted to be."
"Well, let me know if you need any help." He hands me my bag and gives me a friendly smile.
I turn to the men, who are still staring at me. Offering them a shy smile, I head for the door.
Back on Main Street, I take a deep breath. My nerves are on edge, and not because I'm scared like I should be. I'm excited for tomorrow.
Maybe I should spend the afternoon taking photos with my camera and try to relax. I’m supposed to be starting over and focusing on myself, not getting excited over some guy.
No, I remind myself. I'm excited to see the table and start decorating my home. That has to be it.

This was another very enjoyable story in this Men of the Mountain series. I found Phoenix and Jenna to be very likable characters. I appreciated that they had certain interesting similarities in their past, and yet lived very different lives. Somehow, they still were brought together on the mountain and had an instant connection. I enjoy stories like this, where the characters make lives for themselves in small/isolated towns or communities. And where they form connections that practically feel like family to help each other out. I especially liked how a certain aspect of phoenix’s relationship history was handled. His particular situation doesn’t happen often enough in the romance novels I read, but when it does, I appreciate it when it’s done well like this one. I was super happy with the overall pace and plot development and feel of this story. And the narration helped my enjoyment. Both narrators did a great job.TheFlockVIPReviewTeam

TAKE ME TO THE CABIN by Kaci Rose Book 2 in Mt. Men of Whiskey River!!This Book is right up my alley! I love the protective Mountain Men and Phoenix is a perfect example of one. Jenna is new in town. She is a big city girl who's there to hide-out, and a runaway bride. She's hiding from her ex-groom & her over-baring family. Whiskey River, Montana, is a small town with beautiful mountain views & Jenna buys a cabin and wants to stay there forever. She is especially interested in a shy mountain man she met named Phoenix. He makes and sells handmade wooden furniture, and once Jenna visits his shop their attraction to each other is slow-burn but once it heats up is smoking hot! Their past somehow manages to catch up with both of them. It will be an uphill mountain they will have to climb!

Another sweet and sexy book in the series.Jenna moves to Whiskey River to escape her previous life. Coming from a wealthy family she felt she never truly belonged. Jenna isn't into the fairness of it all so she escapes during her wedding rehearsal and goes to Whiskey River, Montana. This story does have a coup!e of conflicts involving her former fiance and her parents. It also has a little bit of a separation but that is resolved pretty quickly.

This series is very touching. A mountain man and a woman both with trust issues. Some revolve around being self sufficient in the mountains others around money and how it changes people. Assumptions are made by both parties and resolutions are hard won. Very nicely done.

Jenna leaves Denver after walking out of her wedding rehearsal. She drives until she finds a place she feels at home. That place is the mountains of Montana. She meets Phoenix at a store when she inquiries about furniture they have on display and discovers he makes it. She asks him to make one for her dining room table. Both feel an attraction but neither knows how to address it. Phoenix lives as much off-the-grid as he can. Jenna is intrigued by it and goes to his workshop when she needs to be off-the-grid. She also asks him questions about his lifestyle and, in return, he asks her to go hunting and fishing with him where he peppers him with questions. Both feel more and more comfortable with the other, then both pasts come up. Will they survive each other's pasts?I loved this book. I am jealous of Jenna finding Phoenix. I liked that they questioned each other. Their attraction was strong though. I liked that Jenna took time with Phoenix to find out about his lifestyle as well as his friends' lifestyles since they lived the same way. I loved Emilie. She was the female friend they both needed. She was level-headed and practical. Her advice was right on. I appreciated the way the men looked after one another.I look forward to reading the rest of this series.

Book 2 of the Mountain Men series was just what I expected it to be. Fun, sweet & spicy, and full of love! I really loved getting to know Jenna and Phoenix in this book, their HEA was touch and go for a bit but, I knew they’d get there eventually. I also loved that we got more of Emelie and Axel in this book too! I think the author did a great job of incorporating these characters really well while still giving them their own story and character traits. I’m really liking this series and can’t wait to read book 3!

Kaci Rose has delivered another marvelous contemporary romance in her second book of the Whiskey River Mountain Men series, “Take Me to the Cabin”. Finally we have a contemporary romance with a mountain man that is low angst but still steamy with good relationship development. The hero, Phoenix, is very respectful to women and is a virgin. The heroine Jenna is a photographer who wants a fresh start away from her rich, controlling family and their superficial lifestyle in Denver. Although this romance is somewhat short (4.75 hours), the story feels complete and satisfying. The few love scenes are moderately steamy and excellent. I love that the obstacles to love were easily overcome. The book is told in alternating chapters from the perspectives of Phoenix and Jenna, along with a few chapters from Emelie, the heroine from Book #1. It was great catching up with Emelie and her husband Axel’s continuing romantic life together. Each book has a different couple, and each of the guys are long-time friends who live off the land on a mountain in Montana. I love that the author is well-versed in the details of self-sufficient living in remote areas. There is a little bit of deer-hunting in the book, in case any prospective reader doesn’t like that. The pair of narrators were absolutely superb. The narrators, Walker Williams and Lacie Glennox, both have beautiful and versatile voices. Their character voices matched really well, and they both made the heroine’s voice sound melodious and pretty and the hero’s voice sound rugged and sexy. Their pacing and emoting were perfect. I look forward to hearing more from these two excellent narrators in the future. Sweet Mountain Man Love Story ❤️ – Audiobook Review 🎧Phoenix is such a kind-hearted, sweet man, who couldn’t help but fall for him.  Jenna moves from the big city to the mountains of Montana to start over.  She meets shy Phoenix in Whiskey River when she wants him to make a table for her.  I really enjoyed listening to their time together and learning more about them. I already used the term gentle giant to describe Axel in book 1, but that’s the best way to describe Phoenix too. He’s so sweet, caring, and attentive. He’s a true alpha male: huge, loyal, protective, and strong. His feelings for Jenna are so endearing. But when he brings the heat, boy does he bring the heat! Jenna is a sweet girl who’s not quite sure where she fits in life. Her stay with Phoenix in his mountain cabin teaches her more about herself than she’s ever known and opens more possibilities for goals and the future. Their relationship is a delicious slow burn full of many heartfelt moments. I loved everything about this story.Lacie Glennox and Walker Williams were perfectly cast for their roles. Their timing, pitch, pace, and tones were great. The story is told from both POVs, and their narration styles were perfect for that. Their characterizations were spot on. They gave each character definition and appeal. Their narration made this story even more enjoyable.

This book was a tad bit better than ‘Take Me to the River’.This book’s characters have the same issues as the first but not as bad. And the fighting and it’s following make up, made me roll my eyes.Otherwise it’s not too bad for a short story.

Loved this audiobook😍. Lacie & Walker are perfect as Jenna & Phoenix. He projects just the right amount of reserve and intrigue with Jenna. And absolutely brings the heat when it’s smexy time🔥I love that the mountain has become a refuge for both Jenna & Phoenix. The place that saved them both has brought them their happily ever after. This was my first book in the series and I am hooked🖤 Can’t wait to listen to the rest of their stories.

Give me Phoenix, Shy, kind-hearted , private, living alone on the mountain. His life dramatically changed when he was 18. He moved to the mountain to get away from people and out of the limelight. Enter Janna, a woman of privilege, hated her life. Her life was all about appearances, every moment was planned, the best schools, clothes, friends and even who she should marry. She left Colorado, wanting to go to a place quiet, serene, not crowded with people. She ended up at Whiskey River. She is enjoying the picturesque woods, wildlife and nature. the scenery is perfect for pictures. She is a photographer and this would be perfect for her book. I love how Kaci Rose develops their friendship, from friends to lovers. There were some doubts plaguing his mind. How would a city girl get used to living on the mountain? Life waa hard, and lonely. Walker Williams and Lacie Glennox narration is very good. I loved listening to this story.🎧🎧audiobookObsession🎧🎧 #TheFlock

I received a complimentary copy of this book from Booksprout and I am voluntarily reviewing it.While this is part of a series, you don't have to read the prior one to fully understand and enjoy this one. I will say though that this book is written in mostly a dual POV format but Emelie (from the first book does have an occasional POV here as well. If you are like me, you may want to read it first.)I really enjoyed this second book of the mountain men that reside in Whiskey River, MN. They are rough, rugged but with a heart of gold when they meet up with their soulmate. Jenna escapes her life in Denver to come to Whiskey River to live. Her rich parents have run her life to the point where she almost says "I do" to a man that doesn't love her nor she him.Phoenix is a man that chose the remote location after his parents died on his 18th birthday. He is socially awkward and humble but makes the most gorgeous wood furniture. Jenna goes to a local store to get ideas for furnishing her new cabin and meets Phoenix. As the two spend time together, the sparks just fly between them. This is a very sexy story. I did enjoy this one and look forward to the next installment of the group!

Their relationship is a slow burn full of beautiful moments. I loved everything about this story.  I also really enjoyed their friends in this story and look forward to the next book in the series. The narration was great and they made this story even more enjoyable.#AudiobookObsession #TheFlock #PinkFlamingoProductions

The first book by Kaci Rose that I read was Take Me To The River and, let me tell you, I was hooked!!!Take Me To The Cabin sucked me in from page one. I didn’t stop till the end. I wish I could write even half as well as Ms. Rose. I love the characters and the storyline. It has it all. Heat, fun, sad, happy, love,…everything!
